Churches and shrines, 2 of 2

More churches and shrines spotted during the week.

Below, the church at Afrata on the Rodopos peninsula.

Below, look for the little blue roof near the centre right.  This shrine is in a quarry, and we first spotted it going along a road in the distance, counting on coming round the hill and seeing it again, and having the camera ready.  We wonder whether this shrine was for somebody killed in the quarry, as it seems odd just having a workplace shrine.  This was on the stretch coming down from Afrata, on the way back to Kolimbari.  Correction:  the church has been there for years, but the hole in front of it is where they took the stone to build Kolimbari harbour, which has only happened in the last three years.  They would never get away with this in England!

Below, the Greek Orthodox cathedral in Chania city.

While on the subject of the cathedral, below is an Orthodox priest in full garb.  Didn't dare snap him face on, as he might not have liked it.

Below, the older and newer churches at Meskla in the mountains.

Below, the church at Fournes, also in the mountains below Meskla.
